There’s a lot of detail to unpack in the above, so refer to and read the Combined FSG/PDS for more information. To learn about the Target Market for this product, you can read our TMD.

Helpful Tip:
You can buy your policy when you’re already on your trip – but there is a three-day no-cover period (you are not covered for these days). That’s why it’s a good idea to buy in advance, which will also cover you for pre-trip cancellation benefits.
Remember:

Why freely?

We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.

Travel insurance for a single trip

Travel insurance provides coverage for unexpected mishaps when you're travelling. If you’re heading off on a single trip, it’s a good idea to consider adding this layer of protection in case things go wrong – such as medical emergencies in Bali or lost luggage in Japan. Travel insurance providers such as Freely offer policies to cover all kinds of activities: from skiing and snowboarding to simply exploring a city.

Regardless of the travel insurance provider you choose, it's important to read the PDS (that‘s the product disclosure statement) before making a purchase. This is a document that outlines what is and isn't covered by that particular policy.

Why is single trip insurance important?

If you’re heading off on a trip overseas, the Australian Government website Smartraveller considers travel insurance “as important as a passport”. This is to counter some of the financial risks associated with travelling – such as getting sick and needing to be hospitalised, or having your travel plans derailed by a natural disaster.

Freely is a travel insurance and safety app that provides coverage for a range of scenarios that may arise when you’re on the road – whether you’re overseas or travelling domestically. Those travelling with Freely can enjoy 24/7 access to medical and emergency specialists, live chat with our team (7am–7pm AEST/AEDT) and the ability to add extra coverage on-the-go using the Freely app.

Is it too late to get single trip travel insurance?

Though it’s best to get your travel insurance with Freely sorted before you head off on your trip – as that gives you access to benefits like pre-trip cancellation coverage – it is possible to purchase a policy from the airport as you’re leaving, or even when you are already travelling.

Just keep in mind that if you’re already on the road when you make a purchase, we have a three-day no coverage policy.

Top tips for heading off on your trip

Here are some helpful tips to consider ...

1

Keep up to date with official travel advice

Head to Australian Government website Smartraveller to read the travel advice for all the destinations you plan to visit. The site is updated regularly with information about natural disasters, political unrest and other crises that may impact travellers. You can also subscribe to keep up-to-date with any changes.

2

Read the PDS before buying travel insurance

PDS stands for product disclosure statement. It’s a document that financial service providers (including travel insurance companies) publish so that customers fully understand what they’re purchasing. Freely’s PDS includes information about how our travel insurance policies work: the benefits, conditions and exclusions, as well as our complaints-handling procedure – among other things.

3

Stay in regular contact with someone

Give someone back home a detailed itinerary, and make a plan to keep in touch regularly. We suggest adding an emergency contact to your account in the Freely app too, so they can be reached if required.
