Freely acknowledges that our office is located on the occupied lands of the Umoⁿhoⁿ (Omaha) and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (The Seven Council Fires) Peoples, whose sovereignty existed long before the state of Nebraska. The colonial genocide and forced removal of these people remain an irrevocable part of history. We are grateful for the stewardship and conservation of the land these Tribes have managed since time immemorial, and which continues today. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Indigenous Peoples.
