Giving back to people, places and the planet
1% for the Planet represents a global network of businesses, individuals and organisations who are committed to tackling some of the most pressing issues facing Earth and those who call it home.
The organisation was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard from Patagonia and Craig Matthews from Blue Ribbon Flies, who initially bonded over a shared appreciation for the great outdoors.
Their intention was to prevent greenwashing and compel companies to act responsibly by connecting them with high-impact environmental partners so that collectively, they can be a more powerful driver in solving the world's problems.
For people
The Hunger Project strives to sustainably end world hunger by addressing the heart of the problem: building self-reliance at a grassroots level to mobilise vulnerable communities, empowering women to be key agents of change, and effectively engaging with local government.
For places
Seed is Australia's first and only Indigenous youth led climate organisation. They are building a movement led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to protect country, culture and communities from the causes and impacts of climate change. Their vision is for climate justice. They believe that First Nations leadership and self-determination is critical in building and sustaining strong, resilient communities where everyone can thrive.
For the planet
Based out of Canada, Pacific Wild is a phenomenal wildlife conservation organisation working to protect ecosystems that sustain biodiversity across the northwest Pacific region and Great Bear Rainforest. By leveraging their many partnerships, Pacific Wild influences policy, public opinion and legislative change to stop the culling of wolves in the British Columbia interior, expose the massive waste and ecological damage of bottom trawling, save Pacific herring and wild salmon, support Indigenous stewardship on the land and ocean, and protect the last ancient forests in their amazing province from logging and habitat fragmentation.
